How to Join GTA RP in 2025 (Console & PC Guide)

Some servers still use outdated methods, requiring you to wait for a live training session that can drag on for hours. Others rely on application forms that speed things up for experienced players. What is GTA RP?
GTA RP, short for Grand Theft Auto Roleplay, is a style of gameplay where players take on the roles of everyday characters inside the world of GTA V. Instead of treating the game like a crime simulator, players follow realistic rules, interact with others, and act out jobs, crimes, emergencies, and storylines as if they were living real lives in Los Santos and Vice City.
Often times modding communities are taken over by roleplayers, which is only possible on the PC version of GTA 5, otherwise known as FiveM. It became so popular and players like Bay Are Buggs, Polecat, Jeff Faviano, and even Kai Cenat gamed

However for PS4, PS5, and Xbox, there is no modding allowed. Because of this, roleplay servers use GTA Online's invite-only lobbies and voice chat to host custom roleplay sessions with strict rules, active staff, and custom-made roleplay economies.

Step by Step: How to Join GTA RP on Console (PS4, PS5, Xbox)
Joining a roleplay community is different for each one. The hottest server right now is United Network, which the guide we provided below is based off.

Step 1: Go to the community's website

Step 2: Navigate to their training course and complete it (takes about 20 minutes)

Step 3: Join the community's discord server

Step 4: Fill out their information sections, usually titled "role request" or similar
​
At this point you're in! But you want to join the sessions now. Here is how to do that.

Step 1: Look for a channel called "patrol schedule" or similar

Step 2: Add the session host's gamertag as a friend on your console

Step 3: Load up GTA and join that user's session

Why GTA RP on Console Is So Fun?
One of the biggest reasons players stick with GTA Roleplay on console is how deep and rewarding the experience can be. In the right server, you're not just stealing cars or getting into shootouts. You're building a lifestyle you've always dreamed about.

Can You Play GTA RP on Console?
Absolutely! GTA RP on console (PS4, PS5, and Xbox) is not only possible, but at one point it was more active than regular GTA Online in many communities. But unlike PC, console roleplay comes with limitations that require stronger community rules and staff.

Since there’s no modding support on console, players still have full access to their weapon wheels, garages, and military vehicles. That means GTA RP servers on console must rely on strict rules. RPGs and explosives are usually banned and super cars are restricted. To keep things fair, most console roleplay servers use a rank system that limits what players can do until they prove they can follow rules, such as preventing new members from fleeing from police until promoted.
Griefing is also a challenge. A frustrated member could easily spawn a tank and ruin scenes. But top console RP servers train their staff to be skilled GTA players. Multiple staff members in a lobby with a griefer could easily make them rage quit within minutes. (I myself have the orbital cannon on standby)

Another downside is the lack of immersion tools. On PC, you can handcuff suspects, apply seatbelts, or break down vehicles through mods. On console GTA RP, that's not possible, which is where Discord becomes essential. Most PS4, PS5, and Xbox RP communities use Discord text channels to simulate actions, such as: “/me places suspect in handcuffs and pats them down.”

It’s not perfect, but with the right community, GTA Roleplay on console can be just as immersive and enjoyable as any modded PC server.

Even if you're just getting started or still play regular GTA Online, there's still a place for you within these roleplay servers. Often times the communities are full of players who help each other grind missions and unlock vehicles and weapons.
